Kaduna State University (KASU) is to collaborate with the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in security services to enhance conducive environment for learning and research in the institution.
The need for synergy in security was brought to the fore when the newly appointed Chief Security Officer of the university, Col Ibrahim Abdullahi rtd, paid a courtesy visit on the State Commandant Alhaji Modu Bunu yesterday
He said the synergy would result in improved security arrangements with the view to ensuring a better atmosphere for high academic attainment.
Col Abdullahi who led a delegation of other security staff on a familiarization visit to the state headquarters of the corps, commended the good working relationship between the university and the corps.
He also noted with commendation the resilience of the operatives of the corps deployed to the institution, seeking for additional deployment of armed personnel to tackle the menace of phones snatching, drug abuse and drug peddling among others.
Abdullahi said deployment of more armed operatives of the corps will complement efforts of the institution’s security department whose areas of operation is limited, thus leading to challenges in dealing with hoodlums in some locations around the school.
Other areas of the collaboration include VIP protection and man-power development in disputes resolution which is believed would impact positively on improved service delivery.
Responding on behalf of the State Commandant, Alhaji Modu Bunu, the Second in Command, DCC Aloysius Nnegha, thanked the CSO for his initiative by the visit and request for collaboration.
Nnegha assured the delegation of the command’s readiness in providing security in the state generally with KASU inclusive.
However, on the request for training, he advised the institution to register its in-house security with the corps, adding that it is the statutory responsibility of the corps to regulate activities of all Private Guards in the country.
For the command to grant the request in training of the operatives, he explained that until the in-house private guard is duly registered, the command may find it difficult to oblige, the Second in Command added.
