Kalu terminated several political ambitions in Abia – CPD

A non government organisation, Coalition of Patriotic Democrats (CPD) yesterday took a swipe on the former Governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, saying his entrenched practice of god-fatherism killed the political ambition of several young people in the state.

Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of CPD, Ako Atuloma, said there is no basis to justify the numerous media criticisms which the former Governor is championing against the incumbent Governor Theodore Orji.

“This is because for the eight years Kalu was governor of the state, he cannot point to one project that could be credited to his administration. We see his constant attack and criticism of the present administration as distracting and unpatriotic”, CPD said.

While dismissing the claim of mass empowerment projects by the Kalu’s government, the CPD reiterated that the his administration has nothing to show for the eight years he was in office in terms of good governance and infrastructural development.

CPD however expressed happiness that today in the state, everybody is free to aspire to any political office as long as he or she has the capacity and acceptance, urging people of the state to resist any ploy by the former governor to pull the state to the dark ages.

“They are determined to pull down the present administration and take the state back to the dark days of fear, superstition and insecurity. The present government has set a standard in terms of infrastructural development, political interaction for future administration to surpass”, CPD said.

On this note therefore, the CPD charged the Abia elders to intervene in the escalating feud between Governor Theodore Orji and his predecessor former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu to avoid crisis ahead of the 2015 election in the state.

It said the issue of who succeed Governor Orji should not be allowed to cause crisis in the state, hence the need for their urgent intervention.

“This crisis is needless, unpatriotic and distracting, we cannot afford to have crisis in the state ahead of the (2015) elections. Under the present administration the state has been having it good and there is no need to have crisis at hand when we need to consolidate the achievement. The elders have big roles to play here,” Atuloma said.
