From Mustapha Adamu, Kano
The Federal High Court Kano on Wednesday dismissed a case filed by Jafar Sani Bello, challenging the membership of Muhammad Sani Abacha of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In an originating summon, Bello alleged that Abacha did not follow the procedure to register his membership at Local Government and ward levels.
However, in a judgement via Zoom on Wednesday, Justice Liman disagreed with Bello’s prayers, thereby upholding that there was a waiver by the national leadership of PDP, which the respondent submitted same to the court.
The presiding Judge, also said the national leaders of PDP gave waiver to every candidate who intended to register with the party and allowed to contest accordingly.
He maintained that the waiver in question had covered Abacha to contest in any position of party.
He also said the court agreed with the respondent’s submission that he was screened by national leaders of PDP.
The court accordingly, dismissed the case of Bello and affirmed that Abacha is legally member of PDP.
