The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced a 3-day retreat for Honourable Members and Management Staff in Abuja.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Chief Press Secretary, Kano State House of Assembly.

It said the retreat features in-depth sessions on the overview of constitutional powers of appropriations, the role of committees in the budget process, management of constituency relations in challenging environments, and the corporate governance of parliamentary institutions, among other key subjects.

In his inaugural address, Rt. Hon. Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore extended his deepest appreciation to His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, Executive Governor of Kano State, for the cordial relationship enjoyed between the Kano State House of Assembly and the Executive Arm.

“On behalf of Kano State House of Assembly Members and Management Staff, I wish to express our profound gratitude to Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for the support he has consistently extended to the Honourable House towards the realization of this annual exercise. The gesture is a source of inspiration and worthy of commendation.”

Furthermore, the Speaker emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to exploring innovative approaches in legislative oversight, including the adoption of technology and data analytics, to enhance transparency and effectiveness in governance.

The 3-day retreat, conducted in partnership with SAHL Human Resources, aims to equip Members and Management Staff with comprehensive knowledge of the constitutional powers of appropriation and the functions of the Public Accounts Committee in relation to other legislative committees.

The statement added that the program will also cover the performance, challenges, and functions of the State House of Assembly Service Commission.

In his opening remarks, Professor Aminu Umar, representing SAHL Human Resources , expressed sincere appreciation to the Speaker and the Kano State Assembly for their dedication to advancing legislative knowledge and efficiency.

Additionally, Professor Abdullahi S. Danwanka provided insights into the critical role of legislative committees in the budget process and highlighted key perspectives on constitutional appropriation powers and committee synergy.
