The Kano State House of Assembly has kicked off a four-day strategic retreat in Kaduna for lawmakers and key management staff.
A statement issued by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly explained that the initiative aims to sharpen legislative skills, foster inclusiveness, and drive effective governance across Kano State.
Organized in collaboration with SAHL Human Resource, the capacity-building program is designed to equip participants with practical tools for stronger institutional memory, better accountability, and smoother leadership transitions.
Throughout the four-day retreat, participants will dive into critical aspects of effective lawmaking, including the role of research in drafting impact-driven legislation, efficient management of legislative records and institutional memory,
compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
Other areas include
navigating the challenges of developing legacy reports, fostering strong, and collaborative executive-legislative relations.
Opening the event, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, praised Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf for his ongoing backing of legislative growth.
“The Governor’s unwavering support underscores the critical role a strong, independent legislature plays in driving accountability, transparency, and sustainable development,” Falgore stated, pledging that the Assembly will continue enacting people-centered laws to advance the state.
Echoing these sentiments, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu commended Governor Yusuf for maintaining a harmonious working relationship between both arms of government.
He reassured Kano residents that the Assembly remains steadfast in fulfilling its constitutional oversight and lawmaking duties.
The retreat features expert-led presentations by prominent academics and public sector consultants, including Prof. Aminu Umar (National Open University of Nigeria) and Dahiru Idris (Bayero University Kano), alongside resource specialists from SAHL Human Resource.
