The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday screened and approved four nominees sent by the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, seeking for its approval to appoint them as commissioners.
On Thursday, December 27, speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Alhasan Rurum announced the receipt of a letter from the state governor with the names of the four nominees for approval.
The nominees include, Engr. Bashir Yahaya-Karaye, Alhaji Mukhtar Ishak-Yakasai, Alhaji Shehu Kura and Alhaji Muhammad Tahir, popularly known as ‘Baba Impossible’.
However, during the screening exercise, two of the nominees, after reading their biography, were asked to bow and leave following request by some of the legislators as provided by the assembly’s law when the need arises.
Tahir was asked to bow and go because one of his son was shot to death on Tuesday in Zamfara State, while Yahaya-Karaye, because he was elected a member of the assembly, and he is presently the Publicity Secretary of Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, Ishak-Yakasai and Kura, after reading their biography, were asked series of questions by the legislatures, which lasted for about 15 minutes each.
After the screening, the legislatures unanimously approved the nomination of the four nominees as commissioners and members of the state’s Executive Council.
Speaking shortly after the screening, the nominees pledged to work hard as expected by Ganduje towards moving the state forward.
