A civil society group, tagged, Northern Youth Assembly (NYA), has condemned the last Friday’s blasts that claimed the lives of more than 200 worshippers, and scores sustained injuries at the Kano central mosque.
NYA, in a statement issued in Kano and jointly signed by its national president, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya and national publicity secretary, Comrade Adikwu Omale Joshua, also called on the federal government to, at a matter of urgency, step up measures to tackle insecurity in the north.
The group expressed dismay over incessant attacks on innocent souls at places of worships and lawful businesses in the north, noting that the heinous acts are being committed by bad elements, which are hell-bent on destabilising the nation’s peaceful coexistence.
The statement reads in part “The National Leadership of the Northern Youth Assembly wishes to express its deep sense of concern over the incessant killings of the innocent citizens by some people who are bent on destabilising the unity and the peaceful social co-existence of the Nigerian nation. The frequent loss of innocents lives of the Nigerian citizens in number, especially the 28th Friday Kano Central Mosque attack, where number of innocents lives were lost to the most ugly incident and similar happenings in the other parts of the North in particular, do not speak well of this regime and its image, both nationally and internationally.”
The statement further said that the persistent breach in the security apparatus of this country is a clear indication of the leadership failure in the country, adding that the development has exposed the failure of the government to exercise its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and properties of the people.
NYA, however in the statement, condoled the bereaved families of the Kano mosque attack, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sunusi II, the state’s governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the entire people of the state, over the tragic incident.
“We also wish to commend the untiring efforts of the medical workers at different hospitals in Kano, for their sense of humanity in responding to the most demanding medical attention of this nature”
