The Commission of Inquiry investigating cases of Missing Persons and Political Violence under the leadership of Justice Zuwaira Yusuf in Kano, has cautioned the media against misrepresentation, concussion and misreporting the activities of the Commission.
In the same vein the commission vows to discharge its mandate diligently, and without recourse to being impartial or apolitical.
The Chairperson of the Commission, Justice Zuwaira Yusuf disclosed this during the its first inaugural sitting, held at Kano State High Court, Miller Road yesterday.
Mrs Yusuf said the Commission is mandated to investigate rampant cases of missing persons and causes of politics violence with a view to make recommendations for enduring solutions to the issues and without biases.
The Commission, invited individuals, groups, Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOS) as well as victims and relatives of the victims of political violences, and missing persons to submit memoranda or petition to the Commission from the day of its inauguration.
“Such Memorandum/petitions are to be submitted to the registry of the Commission which is situated in this Court premises and I assure you that each of your information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
Justice Mrs Yusuf assured the general public that the Commission will perform its assigned responsibilities diligently without fear or ill-will.
“ I assure you that your petitions would be looked into and where necessary you would be called pon to give oral evidence.
According to her, members of the Commission of Inquiry are as follows, includes Hon. Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, Amb. lbrahim Waiya, Former Police Commissioner CP. Muhammad Wakili (Rtd), Shu’aibu Sule, Esq, Amina Umar Garba, Esq and nine others.
Justice Yusuf maintained that the Term of Reference to the Commission Includes finding out the rout causes of the political and other forms of violence in the state, to identify areas where violence associated with the 2015, 2019 and 2023 general elections occurred in Kano State.
Other references include identifying sponsors and perpetrators of political and other forms of violence during and in between elections in the state.
Also to identify all missing persons in the State and determine the circumstances as well as the immediate and remote causes of their missing
