Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has claimed that he inherited a dilapidated health sector from his predecessor, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje.
According to him, the immediate past administration contributed to the unfortunate prevalence of health-related diseases in Kano.
Speaking during a working visit by the Deputy Minister of Health from the Ghana to Kano, Governor Yusuf explained that he discovered the health sector in a state of disrepair, with many hospitals in a state of decay upon assuming office.
“When we came into office, our first priority was to embark on the comprehensive renovation of the State general hospitals. In some cases, we even had to completely rebuild them to create the necessary environment for quality healthcare delivery,” the governor stated.
Governor Yusuf added that to address specific issues, particularly in maternity delivery, the government initiated free maternity services in all hospitals and as well ordered the complete renovation of all 44 primary healthcare centers in the state.
Governor Yusuf noted that his administration has made significant progress since taking office a hundred days ago.
“We have been diligently working to ensure effective service delivery in the health sector.
“Our administration has provided free maternal healthcare to pregnant women and has initiated the renovation of hospitals in the state. We will soon begin the comprehensive rehabilitation of all general hospitals in the state,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Health from Ghana, Mahma Asei Seini, said they were in Kano to strengthen relationship between the two countries.
