In a bold move to promote education and support indigent families, the Kano State Government has launched the distribution of free school uniforms to 789,000 pupils across 7,092 primary schools in the state’s 44 Local Government Areas.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who kicked off the distribution exercise, emphasized that uplifting the standard of education is a top priority for his administration.

He urged parents and guardians to ensure their children attend school regularly, stressing that education is key to a brighter future.

He said the gesture is expected to boost the morale of pupils, encouraging them to focus on their studies and improving the teaching and learning process.

According to Yusuf Kabir, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the free uniforms will also support families facing financial challenges in meeting their children’s educational needs.

Commissioner for Education Ali Haruna Makoda noted that the ministry has made significant strides in training and retaining personnel, as well as providing timely supplies of teaching and learning materials.

He commended teachers for their efforts in reciprocating the government’s commitment to quality education.

The distribution exercise, which began on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Government House, Kano, is part of the administration’s efforts to address the issue of out-of-school children in the state.

Makoda Added that by prioritizing education, the government aims to empower the next generation with the tools they need to succeed and contribute positively to society.
