Kano government confiscates 1,200 substandard tricycle tyres

Kano State Consumer Protection Council, KSCPC, has confiscated more than 1,200 substandard tricycle tyres in the metropolis.

 

The council said it had uncovered a warehouse, located in a rice mill company at Kuyan Ta Inna in Kumbotso Local Government area, where the said tyres were stored.

 

The spokesman of the Council, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai in a statement on Wednesday night, said the substandard tyres were sold to tricycle owners and riders at a lower price in the state.

 

The statement said, speaking at the scene of the operation, the Managing Director of the Council, Abubakar Ali Muhammad said they bursted the warehouse following a tip off by some good samaritan.

On getting the secret information, according to the statement, the agency swung into action, where it uncovered the warehouse and confiscated the goods.

 

The statement said the MD urged tricycle operators in the state to always ensure thst they use standard spare parts of their machines in order to save their lives and properties, and that of their passengers.

 

He also appealed on people of the state to be volunteers of KSCPC in order to achieve the set objectives.

 

The Managing Director reiterated his commitment towards fighting expired, fake and substandard products in the state, while commending governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for giving him supports and the opportunity to serve the people of Kano.

Also speaking, the chairman of Amalgamated Tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Kano, TOAKAN, Mansur Tanimu who was among the team of the operation expressed happiness for witnessing the operation, adding that the association is being receiving reports and complaints from its members about the tyre.

 

He commended the Managing Director of the council for inviting them to be part of the operation.

 

He also said the owners of the warehouse would be prosecuted after investigation in order to serve as deterrence to others.
