Kano State Tourism Management Board has closed down Piccolo Lounge, a recreation center located along Tukur Road, Nasarawa GRA in the state metropolis.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the operation yesterday, Managing Director (MD) of the board, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Gwarzo said the board had shut down two recreation centres within the last three months in the state.
He said the board was made to shut down the joint following complaints by residents of the area over illicit activities perpetrated at the place.
According to him, following the tip off by the concerned residents of the area, the board launched an investigation and found that the centre was being operated without registration by the board, adding that it was also located in a residential, instead of commercial area.
Gwarzo also narrated that he himself disguised as a customer and patronised the joint, adding that he saw young ladies with their boyfriends smoking ‘shisha’ and swimming in half naked dresses.
“During our investigations on the center following series of complaints by the residents of the area, I ones disguised myself and patronised the centre.I was there until 1am, what i saw was unfortunate because I saw many teenage girls with their boy friends patronising the place and taken Shisha.
“So many teenage boys and girls were seen swimming almost naked, therefore the centre had to be closed pending the correction all the defaults,” he said
He said the sad development prompted the board, through a committee set up by the office of the Secretary to the State Government to investigate and take necessary action in line with the tourism law of the state.
The MD stated that investigation is ongoing until the board see the possibility of reopening the centre or otherwise
Our correspondent y reports that some of the residents of the area commended the board for its action, saying that the presence of the centre had become nuisance to them.
