From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

A famous Islamic scholar and governoship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano state, Sheikh Ibrahim Khali has said that if elected as the governor, he will suspend all his preaching sessions to concentrate on governance.

He stated this during a 2023 Dialogue Series, organized by the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Kano on Friday.

For over two decades, Sheikh Khalil has been going preaching sessions at various schools and even radio and Television in Kano and beyond.

However, while responding to a question by a journalist at the interactive session,  Sheikh Khalil said he would suspend all his preaching schools if elected as governor.

According to him, governance is more important than breaching because it is an opportunity to serve humanity.

“It is not going to be possible to combine preaching with running a government as a governor. You can only do something that you think is doable.

“Being a governor is more important than preachings because i  preaching, not everybody will listen to you and benefit from it. However, leadership will impact and benefit everybody,” he said.

The ADC gubernatorial candidate also pledged good and quality leadership that will translate into living a good life, if elected as the governor of the state.

He said, he also aims to give priority to improving economy, agriculture and health sectors of the state, adding that he would entrench rule of law as well as fight corruption.

“The reason why i want to contest and become the Governor of Kano state is because I want to make sure that the life of our people is improved.

“Our people need good leadership and they need somebody who will take care of them properly and who is not corrupt. Corruption drains resources meant for the people. It brings disgrace to the state and the country.

“So people are looking for someone who can help thier lives. I’m contesting because I want to make sure people of Kano state have a good life.

“90 percent of our problems including corruption emerge from disregard to law and order. Disobedience to law amd order stalls development and progress. If people obey law and order most of our problems will be solved including corruption,” he said.

On his chances of winning the election amidst political gladiators in the state like Rabiu Kwankwaso of NNPP, Ibrahim Shekarau of PDP and Abdullahi Gandujeb of APC and their Governorship candidates, Khali expressed optimism of winning the election, stressing that Kano people are tired of them and their candidates because of their weaknesses.

“I’m very confident that I will win because Kano people are looking for the right person to lead them and I’m sure I am the right person.

“I am not afraid of them and their candidates because I know their weaknesses. They lacked the required leadership capacity.

“You can see their weaknesses in the way they dumped each others projects when they became governors in the state and shattered continuity that affected development in the state,” he said.

The ADC Governorship candidate denied allegations of supporting the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress ,APC,  Bola  Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that their party ADC has it’s own Presidential candidate, although the case is in the court.
