Kano NDC Governorship Candidate Condemns Murder of Social Media Critic

Kano State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has condemned in the strongest terms the gruesome murder of social media critic, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

Comrade Gwarzo described the killing as a deeply disturbing and heartbreaking act that should shock the conscience of every peace-loving citizen, stressing that no human life should be taken because of a person’s opinions, criticism or political views.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, and made available to journalists in Kano, Gwarzo described the murder as “heinous, barbaric and totally condemnable.”

He called on security agencies to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing, identify the perpetrators and ensure that they are brought to justice.

Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked and killed inside his residence in Gaida, an incident that has triggered concern among residents and raised fresh questions about the safety of citizens who use social media to express their opinions.

Gwarzo said disagreement, criticism or political differences must never become a death sentence.

“The murder of Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu is deeply disturbing and condemnable. No disagreement, criticism or political difference should ever justify taking a human life.

“The life of every citizen matters, regardless of political affiliation, opinion or social status. Those behind this terrible act must be found and brought to justice.”

The NDC candidate appealed to the security agencies to treat the incident with the urgency it deserves, warning that failure to bring the perpetrators to justice could deepen public fear and undermine confidence in the security system.

He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and associates of the deceased, urging them to remain calm while the authorities conduct a comprehensive investigation.

Gwarzo also called for strengthened security measures across communities in Kano State, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains one of the most fundamental responsibilities of government.

He urged residents not to resort to reprisal attacks or take the law into their own hands, but to provide relevant information to security agencies that could assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible.

Gwarzo said Kano must remain a state where citizens can live, work and express their views without fear of violence.
