Leaders of non-indigenes resident in Kano, under the aegis of Non-Indigenes Community Leaders Association, have called on residents to restrain from instigating insurrection in the aftermath of the rain of serial blasts that rocked the state recently.
A statement, jointly signed by the presidents of Yoruba, and Igbo community associations respectively, urged non-indigenes, particularly the youths, to liaise with security agencies to curb the attacks instead of taking the law into their hands.
It would be recalled that some irate youths in Sabon Gari area, which is predominantly dominated by non-natives, took to the streets protesting the bomb attack on St. Charles Catholic Church in No-man’s land, before the intervention of security agents,
“We, as leaders, advise our people to go about their legitimate business without rancour and bitterness, but to be security-conscious, by reporting strange faces , objects or incidents for prompt action, instead of getting involved in a misadventure”.
The statement, endorsed by Sarkin Yorubawa , Salihu Olowo; Eze Ndi-Igbo, Boniface Ibekwe; President, Non-Indigenes, Jimpat Aiyelangbe and Sarkin Edo, Deacon Fred Akhigbe further stated that the leaders have opened a channel of communication with the Federal Government, to ensure the protection of lives and property in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the non –natives leaders have embarked on a rigorous public enlightenment campaign, through the use of public addressing system, in which the body urged non-natives to be calm and law-abiding.
