Kano PDP Exco members resign

Members of be newly constituted interim executive of the Kano state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), except the state Inyerim Chairman and Secretary, tendered their resignation to the national headquarters.

A resignation letter signed by the Deputy State Chairman of PDP in the state, Shehu Wada Sagagi, made available to newsmen in Kano yesterday said the decision became necessary taking into cognizance developments of recent time and the belief that the national leadership of their party will be accorded the opportunity to provide a platform for proper integration between old and new members of the party in the state.

Although in the resignation letter it was not stated clearly how many of the Exco members resigned, but it stated the chairman of the party Alhaji Hassan Kafayos was not part of the meeting.

“We, the caretaker committee of the People’s Democratic Party, Kano state chapter herewith wish to tender our resignation with effect from today 5th of March, 2014. We would like to seize this opportunity to extend our profound gratitude to the party for the privilege given to us to steer the affairs of our great party in Kano state.

“Its worthy of note that the party of recent made some historic gains with the coming on board of almost the entire leadership of the ANPP, a significant number of serving federal and state legislators along with multitude of supporters of one of the merging legacy party in the APC i.e ANPP under the leadership of the former governor of Kano state, Mal. (Dr.) Ibrahim Shekarau, Sardaunan Kano. This is an achievement that is unparalleled in the political life of our state.”

Peoples Daily gathered that the decision of the Exco members to resign was preemptive of a decision by the national headquarters of a move in the offing to remove all the Exco members except the state chairman and secretary that were nominated by the headquarters.

When contacted, Kafayos said he was not aware of their decision because he has not been communicated as at the time of filing this report adding that he was not part of the decision, maintaining he remains the state party chairman.
