The Kano People’s Rights Alliance on Saturday raised concerns over alleged political interference in the affairs of the Kano State Government.
The group, in a statement on Saturday, accused a former governor of the state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of attempting to exert undue influence on the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The statement was signed by the Chairman of the alliance, Maikano Danlami.
KPRA alleged that any effort by a former office holder to influence the decisions of a sitting government could undermine democratic governance and the mandate given by voters.
Danlami said the alliance believed that the will of the electorate, as expressed through the ballot, should be respected.
“We must remind all political actors that the people of Kano have spoken through democratic elections, and their decision must be upheld,” he said.
He added that KPRA opposed what it described as attempts by individuals outside government to influence policy or governance decisions.
According to the group, such actions, if proven, could weaken public trust in democratic institutions.
KPRA called on political leaders to respect constitutional roles and allow elected officials to carry out their responsibilities without interference.
The alliance also urged residents of Kano State to remain alert and engaged in civic processes, stressing that the protection of democracy required collective vigilance.
The group further appealed to civil society organisations, political parties and the media to promote accountability and democratic values in the state.
KPRA reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and said it would continue to advocate for the rights of Kano residents.
Efforts to obtain a response from Kwankwaso or his representatives were not successful as of the time of filing this report.
