The Kano State Government has pledged to provide boreholes in all the 484 wards across the state as part of efforts to improve access to water and accelerate rural development.
The Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Dr Abdulkadir Abdussalam, made the pledge while declaring open a two-day workshop on the development and implementation of the Five-Year Integrated Rural and Sustainable Development Framework (2026–2030) held in Kaduna.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Faruk Ghali Masanawa.
Abdussalam said the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had invested substantial resources last year to enable officials of the Ministry for Rural and Community Development to undertake assessment visits to the 44 local government areas and hold town hall meetings as part of preparations for the framework.
He expressed optimism that the government would, over the next five years, intensify efforts to address rural development challenges across the state.
According to him, the integrated framework is expected to provide a roadmap for sustainable development and improve the living conditions of rural communities.
The member representing Doguwa Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly and a member of the House Committee on Rural Development, Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim Doguwa, commended the state government and the Ministry for Rural and Community Development for initiating the 2026–2030 Rural Sustainable Development Framework.
He described the initiative as a strategic step towards tackling developmental challenges in rural communities and promoting inclusive growth across the state.
Also speaking, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, represented by the District Head of Rimin Gado, Alhaji Aminu Mudi Yakasai, and the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz, represented by the Wamban Karaye, lauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development for their commitment to the development of Kano State.
The workshop featured presentations by resource persons, including Prof. Badayi M. Sani, Prof. Mansur Idris and Dr Ali Salisu, among others.
