The Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Hajiya Amina Sani, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

Sani, popularly known as Amina HOD, was a prominent figure in the Kwankwasiyya grassroots political movement before her defection.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya.

Waiya said the commissioner had aligned herself with the “Kano First” ideology, which he noted was aimed at accelerating development across the state and fostering peaceful coexistence among residents.

He described Amina HOD as one of the pillars of the Kwankwasiyya movement, adding that she was widely recognised for her strong principles and ideological convictions before her political realignment.

According to Waiya, her decision reflects what he termed the growing acceptance of the current political direction in Kano State under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He said the administration’s resolve to reposition the state for sustainable progress had continued to attract support from key political actors and stakeholders.

Waiya stated that the political landscape in the state was undergoing transformation, noting that the development represented a significant moment in Kano’s governance and democratic evolution.

He added that the shift had reawakened political consciousness among residents, who he said were now prioritising the collective interests of the state over individual ambitions.

The commissioner further maintained that the movement represented a vehicle for positive political change and would help reposition Kano socially, politically and economically.

Waiya also attributed the development to what he described as Governor Yusuf’s commitment to good governance and public service delivery.

He stressed that several commissioners overseeing strategic ministries had reaffirmed their loyalty to the governor and expressed readiness to continue supporting his administration.

Waiya dismissed concerns from critics, insisting that the government remained stable and fully functional.

He said governance activities, including policy formulation and project implementation, were ongoing without disruption, adding that the state bureaucracy and cabinet structure remained effective.

According to him, over 85 per cent of the cabinet members were firmly aligned with the administration’s policies and programmes.

Waiya accused some political actors of attempting to misrepresent the situation in the state through sensational narratives, which he said did not reflect realities on the ground.

He assured residents that the government would remain focused on its developmental agenda and would continue to operate within constitutional provisions and the rule of law.

The commissioner added that the administration would strengthen cooperation among the executive, legislature and judiciary to deepen democratic governance in the state.

He reiterated that Governor Yusuf remained committed to delivering the mandate given to him by the people of Kano State, stressing that the administration would not be distracted by political opposition.

Waiya urged critics to accept the changing political dynamics in the state, describing the current phase as progressive and beneficial to the overall development of Kano.
