Karu roads upgrade boosting Abuja’s economy – Tinubu declares

President Bola Tinubu has declared that the massive overhaul of road infrastructure across Karu township and the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) satellite towns is a strategic move designed to breathe new life into the local economy.

The President made the remarks on Monday during the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated and expanded Karu township roads.

Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu emphasized that infrastructure development is the most direct way to stimulate commerce and improve daily living standards for residents.

For years, the Karu corridor served as a critical but heavily congested gateway between the FCT and neighboring states.

According to the President, the severe daily gridlock did more than just frustrate commuters—it actively drained the economic productivity of the area.

“By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy,” Tinubu stated.

The President noted that the completed project has already drastically cut travel times, allowing businesses in the densely populated commercial hub to thrive under much better conditions.

He described the project as a prime example of his Renewed Hope Agenda in action.

Tinubu praised FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for his relentless supervision and aggressive execution of the territory’s urban renewal master plan.

He noted that the administration’s focus is to ensure economic prosperity isn’t just limited to Abuja’s central business district.

“By prioritising high-density, strategic satellite roads like Karu alongside the city center, the FCT Administration is validating our governance philosophy: that the wealth of this territory must yield practical everyday comfort for all socio-economic classes,” the President added.

Further boosting the local economic narrative, Tinubu and Wike both highly commended the indigenous firm behind the project, Abdul-Val Constructions Limited.

The President noted that the firm’s timely, high-quality delivery proved that Nigerian companies can match international benchmarks for structural integrity and project management.

Wike added that the contractor showed rare commitment by funding the project continuously out of pocket, even when government disbursements faced delays, because of the firm’s belief in the administration’s economic vision.

According to Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, the project—which was awarded in August 2025—connects the Karu Interchange along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway down to the Customs Clinic Junction.

He added that the comprehensive network includes:DSS Road,NIA Road,
EFCC Road,Hospital Road, and Old CBN Quarters Road.

“Karu is one of the highly populated satellite towns of the FCT,” Zulkiflu stated, noting that the new roads will vastly improve security, drainage, and property values.

“With this road, in less than a 10-minute drive, you are already in the city center.”
