KASU Unions Reject Selective Implementation of FGN Agreement, Demand Fairness

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Kaduna State University chapter, has rejected what it described as the selective implementation of the newly negotiated Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) agreement by the Kaduna State Government.

In a press release issued after its Executive Committee meeting on Sunday, September 14, 2026, at the SSANU Conference Room, the committee stated that the proposal to implement the new agreement and pay its benefits only to academic staff was unacceptable.

The statement, signed by the Acting JAC Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Garba, and the JAC Secretary, Comrade Dahiru Musa, urged the state government to extend the implementation to all recognised staff unions in the university, emphasising the need for fairness, equity and industrial harmony.

According to JAC, all universities that have implemented the FGN agreements have done so for all unions in their respective institutions without discrimination.

The committee called on the Kaduna State Government to adopt an inclusive approach that recognises the contributions of both academic and non-academic staff to the effective operation and development of Kaduna State University.

“No university can operate effectively when any part of its workforce is excluded,” the committee stated.

JAC emphasised that the university functions as a collective enterprise supported by both academic and non-academic staff and that no category of workers should be deliberately excluded from the benefits of negotiated agreements.

It called for fairness, equity and equal treatment of all unions in the implementation of the FGN/University-Based Unions Agreements.

“We stand united. We speak with one voice. We will not be divided. One university! One workforce! One struggle! An injury to one is an injury to all!” the statement concluded.
