From Lawal Sa’idu Funtua Katsina

The Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya Kusada has clarified that the work of the a House is to make laws not to share money or award contracts to the public.
The Speaker made the clarification yesterday while speaking at the resumed sitting of the House at the end of their recess.
He added that, “ the average thinking of most uninformed citizens is that the legislature is just like the executive arm of government where contracts are awarded and monetary assistance to individuals is given.”
Kusada noted that the crash in global oil price that cut revenue to the federation accounts by over 50% has according to him affected revenue accrued to the state and their capacity to work.
Similarly, the Speaker disclosed that since the inauguration of the assembly in 2015 it has passed 71 bills into law, adding that since the returned of democracy the incumbent legislature has the highest number of members sponsored bills.
According to him, some of the bills passed includes; Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Bureau of Public Procurement, Katsina state Bureau of Statistics, Zakkat and Waqaf Commission, Katsina state Farm Settlement Centre among others.
He stated that all this was achieved as a result of cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of government in the state.
