In a major move to bridge the mobility gap in rural education, the Katsina State Government has commissioned the procurement of 3,000 electric motorcycles for teachers serving in remote communities across the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Umar Dikko Radda, aims to eliminate the transportation hurdles that have long plagued educators in the state’s hinterlands.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Ben Oshi, the CEO of Ben10 Equipment—the firm handling the procurement—hailed the project as a “strategic investment in the future of education and rural development.”
According to Oshi, the primary objective of the deployment is to address the grueling commutes many teachers face, often navigating difficult terrain at significant personal expense.
”When teachers can get to school safely, consistently, and with dignity, the quality of education naturally improves.
“This will significantly ease transportation challenges, improve punctuality, and reduce fatigue, ultimately enhancing teaching effectiveness”, Oshi stated.
It was gathered that the decision to opt for electric-powered motorcycles over traditional internal combustion engines was highlighted as a deliberate move toward environmental sustainability.
The CEO noted that the electric bikes would reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower operational and maintenance costs for the teachers, as well as contribute to a cleaner environment in line with global best practices.
He added that beyond the classroom, the project is expected to act as a catalyst for socio-economic growth, fostering better connectivity between rural educators and their host communities.
Addressing concerns regarding the longevity of the vehicles, Ben10 Equipment assured the public that the motorcycles would meet high durability standards and be backed by a robust maintenance framework.
”This initiative sends a powerful message: that rural teachers matter and their welfare is a priority,” Oshi concluded, commending Governor Radda for his visionary leadership in prioritizing education as the foundation of society.
