Katsina State Executive Council doubles fertilizer procurement for cropping season

The Katsina State Executive Council has raised the consignment of fertilizer to be procured for this year’s cropping season from the initial ten thousand metric tonnes to twenty thousand. This measure aims to encourage farmers and ensure its availability for onward sale to farmers in the state at a subsidized price.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Professor Ahmed Muhammad Bakori, revealed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the fifth regular executive council meeting of the year presided over by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Accordingly, Professor Bakori said the council has also approved the procurement of seven hundred and twenty-two each of motorcycles and chemical sprayers for the recently converted extension workers in the state.
The commissioner, however, emphasized that the fertilizer would be delivered to all polling units across the thirty-four local governments. He added that the government had taken measures to ensure only genuine farmers obtain the commodity.
In a related development, the state executive council has approved the establishment of a model secondary school in Radda, Charanchi Local Government.
Commissioner of Works, Housing, and Transport, Engineer Sani Magaji Ingawa, confirmed this to journalists after the state executive council meeting. He explained that the approval aligns with the Radda-led administration’s desire to ensure young, talented students in rural areas have access to quality education.
Consequently, Engineer Ingawa said the council has approved awarding contracts for the wall fence, administrative block, hostels for both males and females, and staff quarters at the school.
Engineer Sani Magaji Ingawa further revealed that the council approved the procurement of brand-new vehicles in Saudi Arabia for smooth operations of the annual Hajj exercise.
In a similar development, the state executive council approved the provision of solar-powered street lights covering approximately fifty-two kilometers of major roads in the state capital for improved security.
Commissioner Ingawa listed the specific roads to be covered by the project to include:
* The road starting from KTARDA headquarters to Shinkafi through Barhin Housing Estate.
* Usman Nagogo Daura Road to Katsina Central Mosque.
* The road starting from GRA flyover bridge through WTC roundabout to Steel Rolling roundabout.
Additionally, the project will cover:
* The old CBN junction through Kofar Kaura to Army Barracks roundabout.
* Dutsinma road from Kofar Kwaya roundabout to Alqalam University roundabout, terminating at Kofar Kaura flyover bridge on the Katsina-Kano road.
