Kaura attack: Fulani not responsible—Miyetti

Date:

From Muhammad Ibrahim, Kaduna

Chairman of Miyetti Allah cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Kaduna State Chapter, Aldo Ahmed yesterday disassociated members from the attacks in Southern Kaduna, particularly the recent killings in Kaura local government Area of the state.

According to him, Nigerians should stop blaming Fulani’s for any attack that occurs in the country.

Reacting to allegation leveled against their kinsmen by Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) at the weekend on the killings that occurred in three villages of Kaura, Ahmed said Fulanis are not in war or jihad with any tribe as alleged by SOKAPU.

He said, “We are not responsible for the killings in some parts of the country, particularly the one at Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna state. Not until strong evidence is brought to us that show Fulanis to be responsible, SOKAPU leaders should know that as leaders, they should weigh their utterances.

“Fulanis are not in war with anybody or tribe. Nigerians need to be fair to us and stop blaming us for any misfortune that befalls them. The Fulani boy they claimed to have died during the attack in Kaura shouldn’t have been killed so that he would be able to confess where he came from and his tribe”, he said.

The group accused Nigerians of attributing any violence to Fulani people which they said was unfair.

He blamed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for always excluding Fulani camps each time there was crisis.

According to him, their people hardly get assistance each time their villages came under attacks.

On cattle rustling, the Chairman said their members are still battling with the rustlers, saying no doubt some of the rustlers are not Nigerians and they formed a gang to terrorize Fulanis.

Peoples Daily contacted a source at NEMA who disagreed with the allegation, that they exclude Fulani camps, urging the Miyetti Allah leaders to always channel their grievances to relevance authority.

It could be recalled that suspected Fulanis were said to have killed over 100 people and set ablaze 200 houses at three villages in Kaura Friday night.
