From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

The Kaduna State Government very soon will unveil it Climate Action Plan (CAP), towards combating the challenges of climate change.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change Yusuf Idris Amoke disclosed this during a chat with our reporter in Kaduna
According to him, CAP will be geared toward achieving the ultimate goal of zero zero-carbon.
Amoke, who is the first to be appointed as Special Assistant on Climate Change in the Northern region noted that before the Paris Climate Change Conference of 2015, the state government set out to develop a Climate Change Policy and Action Plan.
According to him, the state government has successfully updated the document to reflect the targets and goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement
Amoke raised concerns about the negative effects of climate change, saying it is partly responsible for the spate of insecurity being witnessed in the country.
While observing that the effects of climate change are underreported, he urged the media to give adequate coverage to climate change
He described climate change as one of the biggest problems confronting the nation today and Governor Uba Sani is moving in the right direction to tackle it
He said, “In Nigeria, it (climate change) is a matter of concern to governments and experts because it is happening at a very frightening level.
“We have problems of flood, desertification, environmental pollution, etc., and despite efforts being made, the devastating effects of climate change are recorded yearly. Even part of the problem we face today is attributed to climate change, which deserves priority attention
“Unfortunately, it seems some of these disasters are even underreported. Perhaps, the media are not adequately equipped to handle this.
“I believe that as journalists it is essential that you acquire the necessary skills and tools to mainstream climate change. This can enable you to set an agenda for the legislature and indeed the executive and Kaduna State Government under the leadership, Governor Sani will soon put in place machinery for that”, he said.
