The Kebbe Local Government Area in Sokoto State has distributed relief materials to residents displaced by recent bandits’ attacks, and is currently footing the medical bills of victims receiving treatment.
The beneficiaries are taking refuge in communities across Kebbe and in the neighboring Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Our Correspondent recalled that the attacks reportedly led to loss of lives, destruction of shops, vehicles and food reserves belonging to residents.
In an effort to cushion the hardship faced by the residents displaced from Kebbe, Ungushi, Girkau, Umbutu, Asarara and Nasarawa, among other communities, the Kebbe Local Government Council has distributed emergency relief materials to affected families.
The Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, Alhaji Musa Garba Kuchi, disclosed that the Council has so far doled out no fewer than 240 of 290kg bags of Garri, 25 bags of grounded groundnut cake, and 12 bags of salt to the victims.
He added that the LGA has also donated 200 Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets, 200 rubber mats, 200 plastic kettles, 200 plastic bowls and other related essential needs to the beneficiaries.
In a related development, Alhaji Kuchi stated that the LGA is currently shouldering the treatment of ten wounded victims of the banditry attacks at the state-owned Orthopaedic Hospital, Wamakko and other Hospitals.
According to him, the local government is also providing all the medicaments and drugs needed by the patients, whom he said are happily responding to treatment.
He added, “We are doing everything humanly possible to see to the success of their treatment, including their routine feeding.”
Alhaji Musa Garba Kuchi also commended the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for his swift response to the emergency humanitarian and security needs of the people of the area sequel to the recent bandits’ attacks in parts of Kebbe Local Government Area.
The assistance is intended to provide immediate support to affected households while they await a lasting solution to the security challenges that forced them from their communities.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the local government council for the relief materials, saying that the assistance will ease their hardship.
They called for intensified security measures and prayed for the restoration of peace to enable them to return safely to their communities.
