Kebbi Governor Denies Issuing Eviction Notice to Tractor Owners 

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has denied issuing eviction notice to members of the Tractor Association in Birnin Kebbi, saying that the purported notice was fake and the handiwork of mischief makers.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Yahya Sarki on Thursday, the governor told the tractor association to continue occupying their business premises and go about their lawful businesses without fear.

He also said they should disregard a purported eviction notice circulating on social media, stressing that it was fake.

“The directive did not emanate from the Kebbi State Government or any authorized government agency.

“The clarification followed the circulation of a viral social media report alleging that members of the association had been ordered to vacate their business location in the state capital.

“To reassure the traders, Governor Idris immediately deployed the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Alhaji Hayatuddeen Bawa Jega; the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi; and the General Manager of the Kebbi State Urban Development Authority (KUDA) to the site,” the statement added.

Addressing members of the association, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development said he became aware of the report through Facebook and promptly contacted the General Manager of KUDA to verify its authenticity.

According to him, the General Manager confirmed that neither KUDA nor any government agency had issued such a directives, and shortly afterward, Governor Idris personally called him to inquire about the matter after also seeing the report on social media.

Jega said the Governor made it categorically clear that he had not authorized anyone to evict the traders and directed that they should remain at their current location and continue pursuing their legitimate means of livelihood.

He commended Governor Idris for his compassion and commitment to the welfare of the people, describing him as a leader who consistently prioritizes the economic wellbeing and prosperity of the citizens.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, urged members of the association to always verify information affecting their businesses through the appropriate government authorities instead of relying on rumours circulating on social media.

He blamed some unscrupulous politicians of using social media platforms to spread falsehoods aimed at misleading the public and discrediting the present administration as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

Yakubu Ahmed said Governor Idris remains committed to responsive leadership, compassion and inclusive development, adding that the administration would continue to implement programmes that improve the lives of the people of Kebbi State.

He therefore appealed to the association and the general public to sustain their support and cooperation with the administration to enable it consolidate on the achievements already recorded for the overall development of the state.

Responding on behalf of the association, its Chairman, Alhaji Faruq Umar, expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for swiftly intervening and reassuring members.

He said the Governor’s directive had brought relief to the traders and restored their confidence, assuring that the association would continue to support the administration while pursuing its legitimate business.
