The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kebbi state chapter has urged the federal government and representatives of the 36 states to the National Dialogue, to support the creation of a national council for traditional rulers across the country.
In a communiqué issued to newsmen yesterday, in Birnin Kebbi, at the end of their meeting and signed by the state Chairman, Alhaji Abubakari Chiso NMayay Ambursa, the council noted that traditional rulers play active role in maintaining peace and order in their respective domains, and are custodians of their cultures and traditions as such they deserve to be recognized.
The council also stated that it supported the creation of derivation fund to states generating electricity for the country; like Niger, Kebbi, Kwara and Kogi states.
“As obtained in the oil-producing areas that were allocated about a percentage from the oil revenues, a similar package is also necessary for power-producing states or communities’’, he added.
The state youth council also advocated for the creation of national fund for youth empowerment, which will take care of massive youth-employment, skills-acquisition and rehabilitation of restive youths.
“We also want the Federal Government to retain the Shari’ah legal system in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which allows Muslims to freely practice their legal system without any hindrance’’, he stated.
