Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has pledged a comprehensive renovation of the state’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, raising concerns over the facility’s deteriorating condition.
Kefas made the commitment on Friday while declaring open the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course for corps members deployed to the state.
Represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Ama Adama Abdullahi, the governor said the current state of infrastructure at the camp falls short of acceptable standards and requires urgent intervention.
“The condition of the orientation camp is not what it should be. We are committed to renovating it and ensuring it becomes conducive for corps members,” he said.
He commended the corps members for accepting their deployment to Taraba despite security concerns in parts of the country, describing their decision as a demonstration of patriotism and national unity.
Chairman of the Taraba State Youth Development Agency, Gara Nonga, urged the corps members to integrate with their host communities and contribute meaningfully to grassroots development.
“You are welcome to Taraba. Our people are hospitable—feel at home and make a positive impact during your service year,” he said.
In his address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Ella Aji Williams, charged the corps members to embrace discipline and actively participate in all camp programmes, including drills, lectures, and the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme.
Williams also commended the state government for prioritising the safety of corps members, noting that such efforts have continued to make Taraba an attractive destination for national service.
“We appreciate the state government’s commitment to the safety of corps members. It has boosted confidence and willingness among prospective participants,” he said.
