The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kogi State chapter has decried the incessant killings across the country, urging the Federal Government to the drastic action in addressing the ugly trend.
The state chairman of the association, Bishop (Dr.) John Ibenu gave the charge in Lokoja yesterday while speaking to newsmen, shortly after the observation of a national day of prayer and protest, in compliance with the directive of the national body of the association.
He frowned at the numerous killings of priests, worshippers and other innocent Nigerians, saying concerted efforts must be intensified to tackle the problem.
He pointed out that government must be alive to its responsibility by providing adequate security to the citizenry, saying if anything, the service chiefs must brace up to confront the challenges headlong.
Ibenu, who is the General Overseer of the Chapel of Freedom International, further stressed the need for government to be proactive in tackling the problem of insecurity, saying those found to be playing politics with the lives of the people must be shown the way out.
The clergy therefore advocated for the setting up of Truth and Reconciliation Commission where aggrieved parties would open up to those who offended them with a view to genuinely forgiven one another, as a way of ensuring peace in the country.
He charged government at all levels to always carry the executives of CAN along in discussions concerning peace and conflict resolution, saying they are prepared to offer useful suggestions that would ensure sustainable peace in the country.
