The heavy vehicular traffic in down town Lokoja, Kogi state capital will soon flow with ease following the flagging off of a N2.9 billion Ganaja-Otokiti dual carriage by the state governor, Capt. Idris Wada yesterday.

Speaking at the flagging off ceremony, Wada said his administration was ready to throw out any government official colluding with contractors to maximise gains at the expense of quality job, adding that there will be no compensation for illegal structures that may give way without the approval of the state government.

Performing the ground breaking ceremony for the 16 kilometer road project, the governor said the project when completed would not only reduce traffic hold up in the capital city but will also boost socio- economic interest of residents.

“There is alarming increase of traffic and influx of new residents to Lokoja in view of its strategic location as the gate way to the federal capital territory hence the need for the by- pass dualisation to decongest the township road” he said.

The governor urged the contractor handling the project to execute the work according to the contractual specifications as government would not compromise quality.

Captain Wada warned that compensation would not be paid to individual property owners along the route who don’t have legal title to their land but that those with necessary legal documents would be compensated accordingly, urging Ajaokuta host community to co- operate with the contractor for peaceful co- existence throughout the 18 months duration period for the completion of the project.
