Republic of Korea and Nigeria share a strong cultural affinity in their love for music and dance, the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Kim Pankyu has said.
Amb. Kim who expressed this feeling during the opening ceremony of 12th Korean Film Festival 2024 last week in Abuja stated that he had the deep conviction that South Korea and Nigeria share a strong cultural affinity particularly in their love for music and dance.
Continuing, Kim said based on the prevailing reality, various elements such as fashion and cuisine along with music were resonating in Nigeria.
He noted that it has led to a significant surge in the spread of drama and films with the global hit, “Squid Game” in 2021.
Kim stated that the most watched drama series on Netflix Nigeria in 2022 was “Alchemy of Souls”, noting that he had realized the importance of introducing Korean films to Nigeria which through a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with African Independent Television (AIT), a local television network, made Korean movies to be aired to Nigerian audience.
He revealed that this year’s film festival would showcase various interesting movies with the hope that people will embrace them.
He expressed the wish that Nigerians and all foreign community would enjoy the cultural experience with a chance to feel deeply Korean story telling in cinemas.
Also speaking, Director of Korean Cultural Centre, Nigeria, Mr. Kim Chang Ki said the aim was to promote K-Movies amongst Nigerians who desire to watch them.
He was of the conviction that the five movies selected to be shown would greatly have positive effect on Nigerians and enhance cultural relations.
A projectionist, Falope Abiodun who came to watch the film, “The Classified File” said he was addicted to anything Korean and that made him to come for the film.
Umaru Jennifer who was a Korean cultural enthusiast stated that she came to see the film hoping to know more about Korea through the movie.
