KPRA berates Kwankwaso over ‘traitor’ tag on Kano governor

The Kano People’s Rights Alliance has slammed a former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over his description of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as a “traitor,” describing the remark as reckless and divisive.

The group said the comment was unfounded and capable of undermining democratic values and peaceful political engagement in the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the KPRA Coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, said Kwankwaso’s remarks were misleading, inflammatory and harmful to Kano’s political climate.

The alliance stressed that Yusuf emerged governor through a democratic process and currently represents the will of the people of the state.

According to Tofa, branding an elected governor a traitor raises questions about Kwankwaso’s commitment to the collective interest of Kano residents and the democratic process.

The group accused the former governor of resorting to personal attacks rather than engaging with pressing issues confronting the state, including poverty, youth unemployment and access to education.

KPRA also faulted Kwankwaso’s reported suggestion that January 23 be marked as “International Naivety Day,” describing it as baffling and dismissive of the seriousness of governance.

While noting that satire has a place in politics, the alliance warned that such ideas, when framed within local governance, trivialise critical issues and deepen political divisions.

The group urged Kwankwaso and other political actors to embrace constructive dialogue, present policy alternatives transparently and refrain from what it described as insult-laden rhetoric.

KPRA added that political engagement should focus on governance, development and unity, insisting that the people of Kano deserved leaders who demonstrate integrity, respect and a genuine commitment to public welfare.
