Kuje Council boss tasks parents on child immunisation

Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, has called on parents to cooperate with immunisation officials and avail their children for Oral Polio Vaccination for the prevention of polio in the area.
Sabo gave the advice during the flag-off of a four-day National Immunisation Plus Days in Kuje.
According to him, his administration would ensure that health was given adequate attention, saying that there was need for parents to present their children for immunisation for the prevention of polio.
“In furtherance to the support of the Government towards polio eradication in Nigeria, we will do all that is required to sustain the gain achieved so far.
“Therefore, I am calling on parents to present their children from 0 to 5 years during this four days set aside for polio vaccination campaign,” he said.
Equally, he urged traditional and religious leaders to sensitise their subjects on the need to present their children for immunisation.
Dr Veronica Yama, the Councils Head of Department for Health, said adequate preparations have been made to ensure that every child was immunised in the area.
On his part, Mr Azie Emenike, Assistant Director Scientific Health Promotion Unit of the Council, said no doubt Kuje is top among the six Area Councils that gave priority to child immunisation in FCT.
Emenike said the Council would try to achieve 100 per cent coverage by the end of the exercise, adding that they would continue to sensitise parents on the importance of getting their children immunised against polio.
