The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has organised a sports and cultural festival in his hometown of Anchuna, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, aimed at fostering unity and restoring hope among residents.
The event, held in partnership with Indomie Nigeria, featured a variety of activities including a marathon race, five-a-side football matches for boys and girls, archery, and wrestling.
It also included a song rendition competition involving men’s and women’s choirs from different church denominations across the Ikulu Chiefdom.
Speaking during the festival, Kukah said the initiative was designed to restore happiness among community members following persistent violence and insecurity in parts of the country.
According to him, the event seeks to bring people together and encourage collective efforts toward rebuilding peace and communal harmony.
“The initiative will bring laughter to the faces of the affected community members and, in the long run, help them to forget their sorrows,” he said.
Kukah added that, given its significance, the festival would subsequently be organised during the Christmas and Easter seasons.
Also speaking, Senator Sunday Katung (APC Kaduna South) said the festival would further unite the people of the area.
Katung described the people of Southern Kaduna as hospitable and emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence in building a vibrant society.
