Kwankwaso’s Kano visit uncertain – Source

From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

Uncertainty surrounds the planned political rally to be spearheaded by the leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement and immediate past governor of Kano state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Fears of a violent clash between supporters of the kwankwasiya movement and those of Gandujiya movement led by the incumbent governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje have been adduced as reason for the cancelation of the rally slated to hold January 30, 2018.
A staunch member of the Kwankwasiyya Group who attended an all-night meeting held by the group in Kaduna on Wednesday in preparation to the Kwankwasiyya Foundation Development fundraising ceremony slated to hold in Kano, confirmed to journalists that Kwankwaso will not be able to visit Kano as scheduled by his supporters at the end of this month.
The source who does not want his name mentioned said, “at the meeting attended by major stakeholders of the group, Kwankwaso broke his silence when he announced that he would no longer visit Kano as planned due to a security report.”
According to the source, Kwankwaso expressed concern over the brewing tension in the state occasioned by his planned visit, and decided on making a quiet entry on a later date.
“I can confirm to you that he (Kwankwaso) is no longer coming on January 30 as earlier planned. Number one, he is not feeling too fine; number two, we don’t think it is proper for him to continue with the visit owing to security situation in the state.
“At the meeting, he was not happy over the way things are going; and I think he has decided to rather make a quiet visit. He also cautioned our supporters over their actions and utterances. So, he is not coming,” the source said.
However, apprehension has gripped the Kwankwasiyya camp in Kano as the news filtered in that their leader was no longer going to visit the state as earlier planned.
One of the chairmanship aspirants in the forthcoming February Local Government elections in Kano loyal to Kwankwaso, expressed dismay over the development.
The aspirant who craved anonymity confirmed that, “we have received a message that our leader, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso would not be able to make it to Kano at the end of this month.
“As I speak to you, most of us in the Kwankwasiyya camp who purchased forms of intent from KANSIEC to participate in the forthcoming February Local Government elections are already feeling unhappy.”
“We were promised that the former governor was going to come with top APC chieftains from Abuja to endorse us! We are now asking for more explanations. We are in a fix,” he lamented.
Effort to reach the national Cordinator of the Kwankwasiya movement Alhaji Rabiu Suleman Bichi to shed light on the reason responsible for the cancelation of the rally proved futile as he didn’t respond to phone calls to his line put through by our reporter.
