Kwara 2015: The late Gov Lawal’s son declares for guber

The son of former Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Akeem Lawal, yesterday declared his interest to contest the 2015 governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Lawal who stated this while speaking during his declaration in Ilorin, said that the outcry by some APC stakeholders in the state that the state’s federal revenue allocation is low, should not be an excuse for non performance.

He argued that the state received lower allocations during the era of his late father and achieved sustainable development programmes.

The father of the governorship aspirant, the late Rear Admiral Mohammed Lawal, had served as a military administrator in Ogun State and elected executive governor of the state between 1999 and 2003 under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) but lost a re-election bid to the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Bukola Saraki in the 2003 election under the PDP.

He said governance is all about resource management, adding that he would promote good governance, economic prosperity and industrialization if elected governor of the state.

He also said that agriculture and human capital, which are the main resources in the state, would be promoted to achieve economic prosperity for the people.

The late former naval officer’s son, who is aspiring to become governor, said his decision was a response to call to serve them in the governorship capacity.

Lawal therefore called for unity of purpose among members of the party to ensure victory all the way in the 2015 general election.

He also appealed to PDP supporters in the state to extend their support for his late father to him to enable him succeed in his political aspiration.
