The two time former Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress,(NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend the Gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States as a mark of respect for the former Governor of Oyo State Abiola Ajimobi who died as a result of Coronavirus complications.
He made the assertion while speaking to the media in kaduna yesterday.
According to him going ahead With the two elections amidst the Coronavirus pendemic is not in the best interest of the people.
He explained that the numbers of confirmed Cases and fatalities are increasing daily and the best thing to do is to suspend the election because it is only the living that votes.
“I watch the primary elections in the two state and the delegates even that of my party, Labour Party did not follow the safety measures put in place so what did you expect from the general population.
“Candidates will embark on campaign from one point to another then how do we check the spread of Coronavirus knowing who our people are.
It is not even in the interest of the candidates to go ahead with the elections now look at Burundi, the man who conducted elections amidst Coronavirus pendemic did not live to hand over power A word is enough for the wise” he said.
