Despite the recent statement by the Julius Abure les faction of the Labour Party (LP) slamming an indefinite suspension on the governor of Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti, the Caretaker Committee of the party has passed a vote of confidence on the 2023 Presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti.
Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Sen. Nenadi Usman told a news conference on Wednesday that the party was satisfied with the leadership qualities displayed by both Obi and Otti, even in the face of the crisis that has rocked the party shortly after the last general elections.
Usman who addressed newsmen in Abuja said it was laughable that the embattled factional Chairman of the party, Julius Abure said he was suspending Governor Otti.
According to her, Abure and his group have no powers to discipline anybody in the party, let alone Governor Alex Otti.
“The NEC of the Labour Party has passed a resounding vote of confidence on His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, for his exemplary leadership and unwavering loyalty to the vision of the Labour Party. It is important to make clear that Mr. Abure and his expired National Working Committee (NWC) lack the legal or moral authority to speak about taking any disciplinary action against Dr. Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, or any member of the Labour Party for that matter.
“We therefore urge Dr. Alex Otti, and indeed all members of the Labour Party, to disregard Mr. Abure’s ignorance and orchestrated disillusionment.
“Accordingly, on behalf of the leadership and members of the Labour Party globally, we tender an unreserved apology to Mr Peter Obi and Governor Otti, for the uncouth and irresponsible remarks previously made by the suspended former Chairman, Bar. Abure.
“Similarly, we extend total vote of confidence on Mr. Peter Obi, National Leader of the Labour Party and the 2023 Presidential Candidate, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and all members of the Labour Party Caucus in the National Assembly and various States Houses of Assembly. You have all stood for truth, integrity, and the values that define the Labour Party. We appreciate your commitment to the mission of saving Nigeria through a Labour Party government in 2027”.
Usman warned that the party under her leadership will no longer condone act of impunity and illegality aimed at promoting personal interests over and above the interest of the party and the country.
