Lack of social justice contributes to Nigeria’s current crisis , says Maitama Sule

Elder statesman, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule has declared that lack of social justice among our leaders and citizenry contributes to the current crisis in the country particularly in the north east where insurgency and political violence has claimed many lives.

Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule made the declaration yesterday in Bauchi during the second annual lecture to mark Bauchi Radio Corporation at 36 saying that injustice is the reason behind crisis everywhere in the world.

The first Republic minister who was the guest speaker at the occasion with a theme “Nigeria’s Centenary Euphoria: A catalyst for a united Nigeria”, said the current crisis bedeviling the country was not new stressing that Nigeria has been dogged by crises since its amalgamation in 1914.

According to him, the only solution to the current state of insecurity in the country was for the leaders to promote social justice to all irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender or political affiliation.

He said “We should not point accusing fingers to anybody. The question we should ask ourselves is what is wrong and not who is wrong because in the past we had so many crises and we were able to overcome them irrespective of our differences. I believe God brought us together for a purpose. We have to unite, love one another and live in peace. I have a feeling that Nigeria will not break up in

spite of the current crisis.”

Dan Masanin Kano therefore appealed to leaders to put their differences behind, come together to work for the peace and development of the country by promoting social justice

“Our leaders should be leaders and not looters, they should be leaders who are compatriots and not leaders for a privileged few. They should not be leaders who will perpetuate themselves in office but leaders who will be elected by the people”

In his remark Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State observed that some politicians have turned politics into enterprises adding that “you cannot be a leader as well as a business man, you must choose one. We must all work to bring a lasting solution to the insecurity in our region.
