Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has said that Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, played a vital role in his emergence as a principal officer at the ninth National Assembly.
Wase said this at the Gamai Annual Cultural Day which was held at the Shendam Township Stadium, Shendam Local Government of Plateau on Tuesday.
He also said that contrary to what is obtainable in other places, the governor has been supportive to him since he assumed office as the Deputy Speaker of the lower legislative chamber.
According to him, “the governor played a very significant role in my emergence as deputy speaker in the national assembly And so, I thank God, I thank him, as a leader who has stood by me. Who worked tirelessly to ensure than Plateau State remains significant in key positions.
“In other climes, some governors are scared to have such kind of positions in their area. But for him, he has worked closely with me. He supports me financially and morally and ensure that we get to this stage.”
Wase also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the entire members of the National Assembly “who have stood out to say, ‘yes, we want Wase.’”
He urged the people of Plateau State to continue to support the federal government, promising to continue to contribute to the growth of the state to move it to the next level.
“I will ensure that we move this part of the country to the next level. Our office is for good, and unlike what we see in the past where some people use their position to fight, ours is to ensure we move Plateau state to the next level,” he said.
“We should ensure that we participate and we are part and parcel of the Nigerian government.”
