The Chairman of Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON,ESV Gersh Henshew said Land resources remains the greatest asset of any nation and state. 

ESV Henshew made the disclosure recently at the opening ceremony of the 27th Conference of Directors of Lands in the Federal, States, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), which held in Abuja . 

The  conference was themed; “The Land Use Act and Land Management Responsibilities of the Federating Units”.

He said “We must be interested in land effective and efficient management.

He explained that, the theme of the conference was very topical and the participants are quite suitable.

According to him:”The 36 States and FCT are the Federating Units of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is my well considered belief that all the Directors of Lands in the federating units, and who presumably, are Estate Surveyors and Valuers, are here, I say so because the Land Use Act(LUA) refers to them as Chief Land Officers of their states and vested on them enormous responsibilities in the Land administration and management.

The chairman noted that, the attendant issues of valuation process of determining compensation for lands, properties whose right of occupancy is revoked or acquired for development purposes of governments state and local.

He said “As  we discuss the performance of these responsibilities by the Federating Units, let us remind ourselves that there are constitutional responsibilities: the Land Use Act being an integral part of the Constitution of the Federal Republic which we must discharge”.

He reiterated that  “We must realize that , apart from the State Governor constitution of the State Government Executive, the next most important Committee to establish is the Land Use and Allocation Committee of the State and the Land Advisory Allocation Committee at the local government level. 

“I believe that the Communique that will be issued at the end of this two day Conference will avail our nation a great deal of information that will foster national development”,he said
