In order to ensure full compliance with the Abuja Master Plan, the FCT Administration between July 1 and September 12, 2014 sealed up 70 properties, in some highbrow areas of the Federal Capital City, Abuja.
It further disclosed that 27 property in the city have been served with land use contravention bills to discourage such acts which no doubt has been impacting negatively on the environment
Disclosing this yesterday, after a meeting with some senior officials of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, revealed that these property sealed up are situated in Maitama, Wuse II and Gwarimpa II Districts.
He explained that the sealing of defaulting property would be a continuous exercise, stressing the need for property owners in the City to use their property according to the land use as enshrined in the Abuja Master Plan and approved by the FCT Development Control Department.
Mohammed emphasized that the FCT Administration would not fold its arms to watch property owners engaging in land use contravention, because such contraventions also affect the city planning.
According to him, a total of 473 building plans were submitted during the same period under review to the FCT Development Control Department, while 384 were approved forthwith.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Muhammad Sule, the FCT Development Control Department has in the same period approved a total of 263 setting out/stage applications.
Also, the minister announced that the FCT Administration has commenced the enforcement of re-decoration of property that exhibits some level of decay in the capital city.
To this end, the minister directed the Development Control Department to invigorate the process of enhancing the aesthetic of individual property in the Federal Capital City to give the facelift Abuja deserves.
He therefore called on the residents of the Territory, particularly property owners to cooperate with the FCT Administration; stressing that everything would be done to maintain the Abuja Master Plan because Abuja remains the window through which the World sees Nigeria.
