Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the District Head of Gwandu, Sarkin Gabas na Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Zayyanu Haruna Rasheed, who passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness.
Governor Idris described the death of the respected traditional ruler as a great loss to the people of Gwandu and the entire Kebbi State, noting that the deceased devoted his life to the service of his people, the promotion of peace and the preservation of unity and harmony within the community.
In a condolence message, the Governor described the late Sarkin Gabas na Gwandu as a humble, peaceful and God-fearing traditional leader whose exemplary conduct, wisdom and commitment to the welfare of his people earned him widespread respect and admiration.
“The news of the demise of Alhaji Muhammad Zayyanu Haruna Rasheed, Sarkin Gabas na Gwandu, is deeply painful and saddening.
“He was a man of peace, humility and unwavering faith in Allah.
“His wise counsel, calm disposition and commitment to peaceful coexistence and unity among his people will be greatly missed. His death has created a painful vacuum that will be difficult to fill.
“His contributions to the development of Gwandu and his dedication to the dignity and responsibilities of the traditional institution will remain indelible. He will be remembered as a respected traditional leader who served his people with wisdom, humility and a deep sense of responsibility.”
Governor Idris extended his heartfelt condolences to the Gwandu Emirate, the deceased’s family, relatives and the people of Gwandu, praying Allah to grant him eternal rest.
He further prayed Allah SWT to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward his good deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus, and grant his family, the Gwandu Emirate and all those affected by his death the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Aged 61,the deceased is survived by one wife and four children.
He was laid to rest in Gwandu town following the funeral prayer held at the palace of the Emir of Gwandu in Birnin Kebbi.
