Lawmaker condemns politicians for Nasarawa killings

The lawmaker representing Akwanga South in the Nasarswa State House of Assembly, Philip Aruwa Gyunka, has condemned the recent spate of attacks on communities in the southern senatorial zone of the state, with the most recent leaving over 30 dead.

Gyunka, who made the condemnation on Monday while submitting his nomination form for the Senate at the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said human life is sacred and must not be used as a bargaining chip in any political puzzle.

He charged politicians to halt the ongoing carnage in the state, saying the primary beneficiary of any political process in the state is the people.

The lawmakwer said his decision to declare his intention to contest for the senate is informed by the desire to use his eight years experience in the state House of Assembly to influence quality legislation that would positively touch on the lives of his constituents.

He lamented that there is total absence of federal presence in his constituency, adding that despite being a dominant agrarian region in the state, farmers in the area are yet to benefit from any agricultural scheme.

“As a banker and legislator, I know what my people, who are mostly farmers, are going through and I will deploy my energy towards ensuring that they are able to get access to the various federal government agro-schemes”, he said.

Commenting on the alleged gang up against him by a former deputy governor and senator from his constituency, Onje Gye-Wado and Sen John Damboyi, Hon Gyunka said the choice of who becomes a leader is for the electorates.

He said his preoccupation at the moment is to see how the teeming unemployed youths within his constituency can be assisted to be self sufficient and not embark on campaign of calumny.
