From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
A leadership tussle is festering and threatening to rock the Igbo Community Welfare Association (ICWA), Kaduna chapter, barely 48hrs after one Barr. Austin C. Amaechi, announced in some national dailies that Boko Haram cannot scare them away from their investments which he said they were ready to defend.
In a swift reaction yesterday, another group with the same name: Igbo Community Welfare Association (ICWA), disassociated itself from the statement, saying the only recognized umbrella Igbo community in Kaduna is ICWA and that Barr. Chris Nnoli is the newly elected President-General, while Igwe Sylvanus Aneke is the only traditional ruler/leader and spokesman of Igbos in Kaduna.
The group said, “There is no other body called Ohaneze Indigbo in Kaduna, which Barr. Austine C. Amaechi is purporting to represent Igbos in Kaduna and same is hereby refuted and disclaimed. “All the assertions, innuendos, and indeed postulations/positioning made in the said publications under reference are merely existing in the fickle, selfish and desperate minds of its makers.
“ICWA held her elections on July 31, 2014 where the maker of those statements was defeated in an election and returned Barr. Chris Nnoli as the President-General, Mr. Walter Temple as the Secretary General among others as elected officers of the Associations.
“Igbos in Kaduna are more concerned about peace in Kaduna and the peaceful co-existence of her members with other communities in the state,” the statement added.
