he Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN) Justice Kuburat Kekere-Ekun has described legal research assistants as unsung architects of judicial excellence.
The CJN said legal research assistants are paramount to the effective functioning of a judges chambers.
Speaking at their three day workshop at the National Judicial Institute (NJI), the CJN their intellectual process and ability to navigate vast oceans of legal information are essential to the quality of justice delivered from the courts.
According to her, Legal research assistants provides the vital intellectual scaffolding upon which our judgements are built, ensuring they are well funded, current and legally sound.
CJN, who was represented by Mr. Osmond Otobo, Director, Administration maintained that their work directly reduce delays, improve decision quality and ultimately strengthens public confidence in the Judiciary.
The workshop with the theme; “Enhancing judicial efficiency through legal research and innovation,’ is structured to empower the participants with the essential stills and contemporary insights required to meet the evolving demands of the profession.
“We carefully curated a program that blends fundamental research principles with the transformative potential of technology advancement.
“You hold a highly visible position of public trust and it is imperative that your actions consistently reflect the prescribed standards designed to uphold the Judiciary’s objective.”
Concluding, the CJN urges them to use the training opportunity to sharpen their skills, broaden their horizons and reinforce their commitment to excellence.
In his welcome address, the Administrator of the institution, Salisu Garba, said the participants are indispensable partners on judicial process.
Represented by Dr. John Onuchukwu, Director, Medical Services, the administrator extolled the participants’ ability to navigate, analyse and synthesize legal information directly impacts the speed, quality and fairness of justice delivering.
“The legal landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, it is imperative that you equally anticipate and prepay for an expansion of your duties.
