LG Electronics has donated a solar-powered borehole to the College of Education, Warri, boosting access to clean water for students and staff.
The firm said the intervention formed part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable community development.
The solar-powered facility, powered by renewable energy, is expected to provide steady and environmentally friendly water supply within the campus, improve hygiene and create a better learning environment.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Provost, Dr Dickson Onovwakpoma Oyovwi (JP), described the project as timely and impactful.
He said access to clean water had remained a major challenge for students and staff, noting that the new borehole had already been sustaining the hostel since its installation.
“This solar-powered borehole project is a significant contribution to our institution. It will greatly improve our daily activities and overall wellbeing,” the provost said.
Oyovwi urged other corporate organisations to emulate LG by supporting educational institutions and contributing meaningfully to community development.
Also speaking, the Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics Nigeria, Paul Mba, said the company remained committed to improving lives through sustainable solutions.
“At LG Electronics, we believe that meaningful innovation goes beyond technology. It is about improving the quality of life in the communities where we operate,” he said.
Mba added that the borehole reflected the company’s resolve to support education and provide practical solutions to pressing community needs.
The Secretary General of the Student Union Government, Testimony, commended the company for the gesture, assuring that students would take ownership of the project.
She admitted that access to clean water had sometimes been difficult for students, stressing that the facility would ease the burden and help them concentrate better on their studies.
The solar-powered system is designed to operate with minimal reliance on public electricity supply, ensuring long-term sustainability.
LG pledged to extend similar interventions to other Nigerian campuses facing acute water challenges.
