LG Electronics has introduced a new smart dehumidifier into the Nigerian market as rising humidity levels continue to affect indoor air quality and increase health concerns across the country.

The product was unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday, with the company describing it as a timely response to persistent moisture challenges during the rainy season and in crowded urban centres.

Speaking at the launch, the Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics, Paul Mba, said the appliance was developed to reduce indoor moisture and improve living conditions in homes and workplaces.

According to him, the dehumidifier is capable of removing up to 30 litres of moisture daily, a capacity he said makes it effective in combating excessive humidity common in many Nigerian cities.

Mba explained that the appliance is powered by LG’s Dual Inverter Compressor technology, which automatically adjusts its performance based on real-time humidity levels.

He noted that the technology was designed to ensure efficient moisture control while also lowering energy consumption, a feature he said would appeal to consumers concerned about electricity costs.

The company stated that excessive indoor moisture has become a growing issue in Nigeria, contributing to mould growth, property damage and health complications associated with poor air quality.

Also speaking, the Assistant Product Manager for Eco-solutions, Yeeun Kim, said many Nigerians often overlook the long-term effects of high humidity on health and household items.

She described the smart dehumidifier as a practical solution aimed at enhancing comfort, protecting homes and promoting energy efficiency in line with Nigeria’s climate conditions.

Beyond moisture extraction, the appliance is equipped with a HEPA H13 Safe Plus Filter designed to trap dust, allergens and airborne bacteria commonly found in damp indoor spaces.

Providing further details, the Product Specialist Trainer, Gbenga Ogunbayo, said the device operates at a low noise level of about 33 decibels, making it suitable for bedrooms, offices and living spaces.

He disclosed that two models were introduced into the market — a 34-litre capacity unit and a 28-litre variant — both featuring adaptive humidity control technology.

Ogunbayo added that the product integrates LG ThinQ technology, allowing users to remotely monitor and control humidity levels through smartphones.

He said the appliance also includes specialised accessories such as Shoe Dry Y-hose and Closet Dry T-hose for targeted drying in enclosed spaces.

On distribution, the Abuja Branch Manager of Fouani Nigeria Ltd, Moustafa Kharis, said the product was already available nationwide through the company’s retail outlets.

He added that customers would also benefit from product demonstrations, technical guidance and after-sales support across Fouani showrooms in Nigeria.
